Lucille Palmer Obituary

Lucille M. Palmer, 88, of Schuylkill Haven, went to be with the Lord on Friday, March 22nd, at Providence Place Retirement Community, Pine Grove.

Born in Dilltown, PA on July 20, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Henry A. & Mary A. (Rose) Tomb.

Lucille married her late husband, Donald N. "Pete" Palmer August 20th, 1955.

After graduating from Armagh High School, she attended Slippery Rock State Teachers College, majoring in Physical Education.

The proprietor of "Just Bears and Baskets", Lucille had also worked various retail positions, as well as a library assistant.

Lucille was an active member of United Methodist Church in Bouckville, NY and had served as a Cub Scout Den Mother.

She never missed grandchildren's sporting events, recitals, graduations, and birthdays even if it meant she had to be there virtually. An adventurer, Lucille traveled across the country and went on many vacations with her family, even in the last decade. She was a fighter, beating cancer twice in her lifetime, defying the odds at age 86. Lucille was known as a night owl, staying up late to complete crossword puzzles and watching her favorite shows.

Lucille is survived by her daughter, Bonna, wife of Richard Hughes, of Albuquerque, NM; and son, Barry, husband of Shelly Palmer, of Schuylkill Haven. She is also survived by a sister-in-law, Mary Gladys Tomb of Fayetville, OH; grandchildren, Katherine Hughes-Martinez, wife of Estevan and Richard Hughes, significant other of Aubriana of Albuquerque, NM; nieces, Paula Adams, wife of Scott of Fleetwood, PA; Kristine Reese of Fayetville, OH; Karol Heyman of Grove City, OH; Karen Gresham of Colorado Springs, CO; and Robin Rozsi of Uniontown, OH.

In addition to her husband and parents, Lucille is preceded in death by her siblings, Iva L. Boyd and Alvin M. Tomb; infant niece; brother-in-law, J. Tom Boyd; and her beloved Shihtzu, Murphy and Lhasa Apso, Chaucer.

A graveside committal service will be held at 11:30 AM on Thursday, March 28th at Armagh Cemetery with Rev. Barry Brown officiating.

The family prefers memorials in the form of contributions to Ruth Steinert Memorial SPCA, PO Box 332 Schuylkill Haven, PA 17972.
