Norman R. Spotts, Sr.

Norman R. Spotts, Sr., 98, of Pottsville, passed away Thursday, March 28th, at home.

Born in Pottsville on April 11, 1925, he was the son of the late Earl and Bertha (Ebling) Spotts.

Norman was the widower of Elizabeth (Grandi) Spotts with whom he shared 67 years of marriage.

He attended Pottsville Area High School.  A World War II veteran, Norman was drafted into the United States Army Air Forces in 1943.  He attained the rank of Technical Sergeant, serving as a top turret gunner/flight engineer aboard a Martin B-26 Marauder medium bomber in the European Theater of Operations.  

Following his discharge from the Army, Norman was employed as a welder for Aetna Steel and a mechanic for Economy Garage and Machine Shop. He was an avid follower of the Philadelphia  Flyers, Eagles and Phillies.

Norman is survived by two sons; Richard (Linda) and Norman R. Jr. (Debbie) and three daughters; Judith (Henry Davis), Lisa (Rick Jones), and Maria (Michael Glore). Norman’s grandchildren; Melissa Spotts, Michele Spotts, Nicole McMurtrie (Thomas), Timothy Davis (Ashley), Norman R. Spotts III (Sarah), Nicholas Spotts (Katie), Alexa Hauer (Christopher), Richard Jones, KK Glore, and Kenneth Glore; great grandchildren, Jackson, Titus, & Boden McMurtrie, Bryson, Colton & Lincoln Davis, Norman R. Spotts IV, Tate, Aria, & Easton Hauer. Norman is also survived by a sister, Jean Rolshausen.

In addition to his wife and parents, Norman is preceded in death by his son, Martin Spotts; siblings, Evelyn McGlone, Wilbur Spotts, Marie Repp, Kay McCall, Shirley McCord, Eleanor Kremer, and Verna Mates.

The family thanks Connections Life Care Hospice, especially Karen and Caroline, for their care and compassion towards Norman and his family.  

Services are private at the convenience of family.
