Andrew D. Koperna, Sr., 97, of Schuylkill Haven, passed away Monday, December 10th, at his residence.
Born in Saint Clair, on November 24, 1921, a son of the late Catherine (Bujdos') and Stephen Koperna.
He was the husband of Eula Mae (Dennis) Koperna, they were married for 73 years.
He was a member of St. Ambrose Roman Catholic Church, Schuylkill Haven. He also belonged to the Iron Workers Union, Robert E. Baker Post #38 American Legion, Schuylkill Haven and a life member of both the Second Mountain Gun Club and Friedensburg Fish and Game.
He served in the U.S. Army Air Corp. during World War II.
He was a family man and loved his grandchildren and great grandchildren and enjoyed time at the Koperna Hunting Camp. He always carried a positive outlook on life.
Andy had worked as a coal miner, steel erector, welder, and had owned a gas station for a short period of time.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by children, Linda Bryden, Patricia Miller, Andrew Koperna, Jr. & wife Judy and Roger Koperna & wife, Teena, all of Wayne Township; grandchildren: Jeremy & Marc Gustitus, Kelly Womer, Anissa, & Cody Koperna, and Natalie Pflueger; great-grandchildren: Raven & Alexandria Womer, Logan, Brady, & Luke Gustitus, and Owen Pflueger.
He was also preceded in death by brothers: Joseph, George, Stephen, John, Frank, & Paul, sisters: Mary, & Ann, and grandchildren: Blaine & Matthew.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Ambrose Roman Catholic Church, Schuylkill Haven, at 10 a.m. on Thursday, December 13th, with Rev. Msgr. Edward S. Zemanik
Rev. Kevin J. Bobbin officiating.
A viewing for family and friends will be held prior from 8:45 to 9:45 a.m. at the Church.
