Bessie W. (Williams) Berghoff

June 22, 1909 — July 27, 2016

Bessie W. Berghoff, 107, of Lake Wynonah, passed away Wednesday at Orwigsburg Center-Genesis Healthcare, Orwigsburg, where she had been a resident.

Born in Wellsburg, W.Va., June 22, 1909, she was a daughter of the late Earl C. and Rosa V. Darrah Williams.

She was the widow of S. Bernard Berghoff.

She had worked in the accounting department for the U.S. Treasury in Washington, D.C. When she moved to Lebanon, she worked for the Army Department at Fort Indiantown Gap, Annville, where she retired.

As she resided in many different locations, Bessie belonged to several Order of the Eastern Star chapters over the years. She was a life member of Order of the Eastern Star, Washington, D.C., past worthy matron in Dubois, Washington, D.C., Lebanon and Tallahassee, Fla.

In addition to her parents and husband, Bessie was preceded in death by three sisters and a brother.

Bessie is survived by a daughter, Betty Schreckengost, widow of Robert, Lake Wynonah; a son, Lee Berghoff, husband of Muntana, Thailand; grandchildren, Lance, Mace and Breck Schreckengost; great-grandchildren, Bradley Schreckengost, husband of Tamara, and Jennifer and Samantha Schreckengost; great-great-grandchildren, Alexis, Brantley and Abigail; nieces, including Patricia McKelley; nephews.

Private services and interment will be held at the family's convenience. The family requests donations in Bessie's memory to an Order of the Eastern Star chapter of the donor's choice.
