Daniel Joseph Reed, 81, of LaPlume, passed peacefully into the arms of his Savior on Saturday at Hospice of the Sacred Heart, Dunmore.
He entered this world on May 26, 1936, a son of Sherman and Mary Bittle Reed. He spent his growing years in Cressona. He married his loving wife, Arlene Heisler, in 1956.
He was a Marine Corps sergeant, stationed in Puerto Rico when his first son, Daniel, arrived in 1958, his daughter, Carlene, in 1960, and doubly blessed with twin sons, Brent and Brad, in 1964.
He worked hard to provide for his family. He enjoyed family, friends and wildlife at hunting camp, a favorite retreat. He was always quick with a joke, smile or wink. He left smiles on the faces and hearts of all who knew and loved him.
Dan was a member of Mill-Green United Methodist Church, Millville, Millville American Legion, Tamaqua Lodge 238 F&AM, Black Sheep Detachment and the Marine Corps League, and Devil Dogs.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant sister, Mary Esther; a brother, Kay S. Reed; a grandson, Richard Blagrave.
In addition to his wife and children, his legacy lives on through his eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Barbara Krause; nieces, nephews and cousins.
His family would like to express their deepest gratitude and appreciation for the countless hours of giving, caring and concern displayed by the staff of the Hospice of the Sacred Heart. We will be forever grateful.
In lieu of flowers, please send memorial donations to Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675-8517, to honor our veterans. Because he reached out to so many in his lifetime, please do a random act of kindness in memory of Daniel. A Celebration of Life funeral service will be held at 12:30 p.m. Friday at Ebling-Stabingas Funeral Home, Cressona, with Pastor Robert Strozyk officiating. A viewing for family and friends will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday and 11:30 a.m. until the time of the service Friday at the funeral home.
