David Ralph Smith, of Schuylkill Haven, passed away suddenly February 19, at Geisinger St. Luke’s hospital, at the age of 94. He was born in Marstown on October 7, 1928, to the late Amy Augusta (Christ) Rountree and the late Richard H Smith.
David attended Pottsville High School and the US Armed Forces Institute. He served in Africa and Europe with the US Army Air Corps and Japan and South Korea with the US Army Corps of Engineers.
David worked for Alcoa, Cressona and Lebanon, for 40 years before retiring in 1990. He also owned his own business, ABC Antenna. He was a member of Schuylkill Lodge F&AM, Orwigsburg, and Rajah Shrine, Reading, and was lifelong member of First United Methodist Church, Schuylkill Haven.
In addition to his mother and father, he was preceded in death by his wife, Gaynell Mae Corcoran, with whom he celebrated 50 years of marriage in 2003, a son, Mark, who died in 2021, brothers Richard Smith, Eugene Rountree, Ronald Rountree, and Robert Rountree, a sister, Rosemary "Sis" Rountree, and a great-grandson, Connor Dennin.
He is survived by a son, David R Smith II, and his wife, Darci, of Olympia, Washington, grandchildren Amanda Smith and her partner, Joseph Brightman, of York, Molly Smith of Olympia, Washington, Jeff DeLaCruz of Chicago, Ellen Smith and her husband, James Spink, of Schuylkill Haven, Becki Smith of Olympia, Washington, and Joshua Smith of Middleport, great grandchildren Austin Correll and his father, Dan, Emily, Katherine, and Matthew Dennin and their father, Michael, Alexa and Kayli Moyer, and Alyssa Spink, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Private funeral services will be held from Geschwindt Stabingas Ebling Funeral Home Inc., Schuylkill Haven, with Rev. Dr. Christopher Fisher officiating. Interment with full military honors will be held at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery Annville.
The family would prefer remembrances in the form of contributions to Rajah Shrine 221 Orchard Road, Reading PA
