Diana M. Smith

November 8, 1950 — November 16, 2023

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Diana M. Smith, 73, of Pottsvillle, a truly remarkable individual whose life was characterized by strength, independence, and boundless love.  Diana departed this world on November 16th, surrounded by her family, leaving behind a legacy that will forever be etched in the hearts of those fortunate enough to have known and loved them.

She was born November 8th, 1950, in Pottsville, daughter of the late Frank Fetterolf and Josephine (Joy) Fetterolf.

Diane graduated from Pottsville High School in 1968, and Pottsville Hospital School of Nursing in 1971.  She also attended Penn State and Kutztown.  She worked as a Registered Nurse at Pottsville Hospital & Warne Clinic and then Schuylkill Medical Center until she retired in 2010.  She had been a member of the OB-GYN staff, taught Childbirth Classes and then primarily was a member of Nursing Management until retiring as Infection Control Director.  In retirement, she was Office Manager for her son’s Income Tax Office, Kirk Smith Tax Service in Pine Grove.

Diana was a paragon of strength, facing life's challenges with unwavering determination and resilience. Her ability to navigate difficulties with grace and courage inspired all who were privileged to witness it. In times of adversity, Diana stood tall, a testament to the power of inner strength and a source of inspiration for those who sought guidance.

Independence was a hallmark of Diana’s character.  She lived on her terms, embracing the freedom to forge her own path and make choices that reflected her authentic self. Diane was a beacon of self-reliance, teaching us all the importance of staying true to one's convictions and charting a course guided by individual values.

In addition, Diana was a beacon of love. Her love knew no bounds, encompassing family, friends, and even strangers in need. Diana embraced the role of grandparent with open arms and a heart full of love. Her eyes sparkled with joy at the sound of her grandchildren's laughter and found joy in witnessing the growth and accomplishments of each grandchild.

Diane was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Pottsville; Retired Nurses of Schuylkill County, serving as President, Vice-President and Treasurer, and Board Member.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Kirk D. Smith, in 2009.  She is survived by her son, Kirk E. Smith, wife Jacintha, of Las Vegas, NV; a daughter, Kami Smith McGovern, husband Sean, of Merion Station, PA; brother Frank Fetterolf, wife Maryann, Pottsville; grandchildren, Mahoney, Murphy and Lela McGovern; her nieces and nephew.  Also survived by her long time best friend, Gina Chiplonia Swircek, Hazleton, PA.  She also has a daughter Kara Leuffen, and grandson, Cole in California.
