Earl J. Blum

Earl J.Blum, 74, of Deer Lake and formerly of Pottsville passed away Sunday, at his residence.

Born in Pottsville, February 29, 1944 a son of the late Frederick and Alma Schoffstall Blum.

He graduated from Pottsville High School, Class of 1962 and the Allied Corp. Execute Training Program.

On May 6, 1967, he married his loving and beloved wife Janis Felker Blum of 51 years.

He worked for the Greater Pottsville Area Sewer Authority, as the account manager for 24 years and retired on June 30, 2006 and Pomeroy’s Department Store, Pottsville as a sales manager for 21 years.

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and the former English Lutheran Church, both of Pottsville. He served on Church Council, and was the treasurer for 7 years and served on other committees at Trinity Lutheran Church.

He was a life member of the West End Hose Co. #7 of Pottsville, was a member of the Pottsville Board of Fire Trustees, Pottsville Firemen’s Relief Trust Association and served as treasurer for 7 years.

He served as a Assistant Fire Chief for the city of Pottsville from July 1977 to 1980, former member of Schuylkill County Firefighter’s Association and is a member of the Six-County Firemen’s Association.

He served in the Army Reserve for 27 years and retired at the rank of Master Sergeant.

He was preceded in death by a brother Raymond Blum and sister Alma Blum Buckinsky.

Surviving in addition to his wife, beloved son Dale Blum and his wife Kimberly of Pottsville, beloved daughter Cheryl Dukmen of Orwigsburg, his beloved grandchildren Jocelyn Harach and her husband Patrick, Courtney, Mallorie and Connor Dukmen, great granddaughter Charlee Mae his brother Frederick Blum and his wife Joann, Williamsport and his sister Elaine Mclauchlin and her husband Arlie, Virginia Beach and his brother in law Leonard Buchinsky and nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am, Friday, April 13 at the Trinity Lutheran Church, Third and Arch Streets, Pottsville with the Reverend Harold Hand and Reverend Chris Rothharpt officiating. Family and friends may call 6-8 pm and 9 am until the time of the service at the church. Interment with military honorswill be conducted at Schuylkill Memorial Park, Schuylkill Haven.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Rev. Philip S. Bendle III Scholarship Fund in care of Trinity Lutheran Church, 300 W. Arch Street, Pottsville PA 17901.
