Edith Lorraine (Smith) Houtz

Our dear Mother, Edith Lorraine Smith Houtz sadly passed away on January 18, 2025 at St. Luke’s Geisinger Hospital in Orwigsburg, PA at the age of 97. She was a wonderful mother who was always there for her children offering support, wisdom, and love in abundance. Edith was a beloved figure of Deiberts Valley Road, Schuylkill Haven, PA since 1963.

Born in Pottsville, PA on January 5, 1928, she was a daughter of the late Benjamin & Elsie Faller Smith. She attended Pottsville School District.

Edith was a widow of William H. Houtz, Sr. She was a member of Reedsville EC Church.

Edith was well taken care of by her granddaughter, Rebecca Donton. Rebecca was her caretaker for the last seven years of her life.

A devoted mother, she is survived by four children, Sharon Fryer, wife of James Fryer, Beverly Houtz, Marvin Houtz, husband of Kimberly Spital Houtz, and Gregory Houtz, husband of the late Mary Beth Stinnett Houtz.

Edith was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Eleanor & Elsie and a brother Charles. Also by her husband, William Houtz, Sr. & son, William Houtz, Jr.

Interment will be held at the convenience of the family and be laid to rest at Schuylkill Memorial Park beside her husband, William.
