Gary Carl Anderson

Gary Carl Anderson, 78, of Friedensburg, passed away surrounded by family on Sunday, March 16th.

Born in Pottsville on October 12, 1946, he was a son of Beatrice V. (Fidler) Anderson, a resident of Seton Manor and the late Carl F. Anderson. He was raised on his family's farm where he would live his entire life.

Married 57 years, he was the husband of Faye E. (Herring) Anderson.

He was a member of St. John's Reformed Church, Friedensburg.

Gary was a 1965 graduate of Blue Mountain High School. Active in the Future Farmers of America, Gary's high school project on growing potatoes launched the local produce legacy of Anderson Farms.

As the longtime owner and operator of Anderson Farms, Gary was a fixture at the Hometown & Renninger's Markets, and the family's roadside stand in Friedensburg until his retirement in 2013. After retirement, he continued to provide farming wisdom and advice to his family.

While his children were in school, Gary was active in the Young Farmers Association. He was also an avid hunter.

In addition to his mother and wife, Gary is also survived by four children: Annette Kelly, companion of Roger Kleckner, Pine Grove, Janet Minnich, wife of Clayton, Schuylkill Haven, Sheila Hatter, wife of Kent, Auburn, & Gary C. Anderson II, husband of Amy, Schuylkill Haven, seven grandchildren: Megan Miller, wife of Gabe, Robert Kelly, Keith Minnich, Alec & Colin Sabitsky, and Travis & Bradley Anderson, one great-granddaughter, Andie Miller, and one sister, Karen Souder, wife of H. Douglas, Lebanon.

A Celebration of Life Funeral Service will be held at 11 AM on Thursday, March 20th at Geschwindt Stabingas Ebling Funeral Home, Inc., Schuylkill Haven, with Pastor Eugene Eckroth officiating. A Viewing will be held at the funeral home from 9 AM until the time of service.
Interment will follow at St. John's Union Cemetery, Friedensburg.
