Gary Gibson, Sr.

November 17, 1939 — November 7, 2015

Gary Gibson Sr., 75, of Cressona, peacefully went home to the Lord on Saturday at ManorCare Health Services, Pottsville.

He was the husband of Nancy Ann Blankenhorn Gibson.

Born in Hamburg, Nov. 17, 1939, Gary was a son of the late Stella Driesbach and Paul Gibson.

He attended Hamburg schools and served in the Army.

Gary always enjoyed being mechanically inclined and being a professional truck driver.

Gary enjoyed playing softball and Reading City Ball and race cars on dirt tracks. He also excelled in bowling, becoming a Schuylkill County bowling champ. He was inducted into the Schuylkill County Greater USBC Hall of Fame in 1992. He also enjoyed watching and mentoring his children and grandchildren in all their sporting events.

Gary was preceded in death by a sister, Gwendolyn Farina, and a brother, Glenn Gibson.

In addition to his wife, Gary is survived by three sons, Robert M., husband of Roseann Gibson, Auburn, Stephen P., husband of Michelle Gibson, Auburn, and Gary P. Gibson Jr., Cressona; three grandchildren, Megan L. Gibson, Joshua P. Gibson and Lindsay M. Gibson; nieces and nephews; two sisters, Beverly Wagner, Tuckerton, and Gail Schwanbach, Reading.

A special thank you to Dan and all of the wonderful staff and nurses for the wonderful love and care at ManorCare Pottsville. Gary touched many lives with his kind heart at ManorCare and was president of Resident Council for two years. Thank you to Healthland Hospice for loving support and care.

A Celebration of Life memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Friday at Grace Evangelical Free Church, Cressona, with the Rev. Randy Ott officiating. Family and friends may call from 5:30 p.m. until the time of service at the church. Interment will be at the convenience of the family.
