George Nevin Strock, 76, of Wayne Township, passed away Monday, July 5th, at home.
Born in Mechanicsburg, PA on September 19, 1944, he was a son of the late George W. & Ruth (Nace) Strock.
He was the husband of Judy G. (Myers) Strock. The couple would have celebrated 50 years of marriage on July 17th.
Nevin was a graduate of Mechanicsburg High School, Class of 1962. He earned his Bachelor's Degree in Forestry from Penn State University. He was a member of the university's fraternity, Delta Theta Sigma; as well as the Penn State Alumni Association.
Nevin was employed by Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection for 35 years. He belonged to the Pennsylvania Forestry Association, and the Allegheny Society of American Foresters.
He was a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church of Friedensburg.
Nevin served in the U.S. Army as a First Lieutenant in the Vietnam War. He served in the Army Corps of Engineers; 544th Engineering Company, and 588th Engineer's Battalion. Nevin was an active member of the Robert E. Baker Post #38 American Legion, Schuylkill Haven, where he served on the Honor Guard.
He was an avid LA Dodgers fan. He loved attending his grandchildren's sporting events/activities and driving around in his 1961 Corvette.
In addition to his wife, Nevin is also survived by a daughter, Angeline D. Dewald, wife of Jeffrey, of Wayne Township; and a son, George Gregory Strock, of Philadelphia; and three grandchildren: Sydney, Joshua, & Morgan Dewald. He is also survived by three sisters: Rosalie Green, wife of Bob, of Carlisle; Judy Hoch, of Shippensburg; and Nancy Ryder, wife of Kirk, of Dillsburg, PA, a brother, Barry Strock, husband of Linda, of Mechanicsburg; and several nieces & nephews.
In addition to his parents, Nevin is also preceded in death by a grandson, Zachary Dewald.
A Celebration of Life Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 AM on Thursday, July 8th at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church of Friedensburg. A viewing will be held from 9:30 AM until the time of service at the church.
Interment with military honors will follow at St. John's Union Cemetery, Friedensburg.
