Gladys A. (Salada) Bevan

February 16, 1926 — October 20, 2022

Gladys Aurelia (nee Salada) Bevan, 96, of Pottsville, was called home by the Lord on October 20th, 2022.

Born February 16, 1926 in Minersville, PA, Gladys was the daughter of the late Howard E. and Ethel E. Lord Salada.

Gladys was the loving wife of Raymond E. Bevan married on 8 April 1950 in the United Methodist Church, Llewellyn, PA.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 40 years, a Great-Grandchild, Matthew James Maley and a sister, Donna M. Rhoades.

Gladys attended Minersville Elementary Schools, graduating in 1944 from Branch Township High School. She started her working career at Reedy’s Service Station, Llewellyn, PA in 1945. Then in 1946 she attended Ford School of Business, graduating in 1947. 1948 found her working in Philadelphia for Sears and Roebuck Co and was later transferred to the Pottsville Sears Store. She also worked for the Pottsville Republican, The First United Methodist Church, Pottsville, Capital Bakers, Mt. Carbon, Guers Dairy, Tumbling Run, Economy Supply, and retired from Addus Home Health Care in 2015.

She was a loving, caring and devoted Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother. She loved spending time with her family and friends. She very much enjoyed her work as a Home Health care person and the people she helped. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Pottsville, and

she loved going to church. She was also a past member of the Order of the Eastern Star.

Gladys is survived by two sons, Raymond E., (Sandra M.), of Pottsville, and Howard W., (Janice L.), West West Terrace, seven Grandchildren, Robin E., (Karen), MarLin, Melissa A. Melewsky, (Adam), Mechanicsburg, Randy, (Krista), Pottsville, Leandra R. Maley, (Michael), West West Terrace, Matthew H., (Melissa), West West Terrace, Sara M. Bevan, (Phillip Louie), Dover, DE, Marlana R. Davies, (Brendon), Philadelphia, also 11 Great Grand Children, Jacob M. Bevan, Jack M. Maley, Nathan A. Melewsky, Noah V. Bevan, Anna Rose Melewsky, Mira E. Bevan, Maxwell J. Melewsky, Lila J. Maley, Preston L. Louie, Elizabeth P. Melewsky, and Tucker J. Louie. Gladys is also survived by her brother, Edwin E. Salada, (Patrica), Lebanon and by her nieces and nephews; Jeanne L. Catizone, Beth A. Walk, (Tom), James H. Rhoades, Barbara A. Rhoades, Marie A. Loreman, (Dan), Wallace J. Rhoades, (Sherri), Curtis C. Salada (Debra), Matthew A. Salada, (Michelle), Great nieces and nephews and cousins, her special hair dresser Karen Phillips. Family and Friends are invited to attend a viewing at the First United Methodist Church, 4th & W. Market Streets, Pottsville, PA from 9am to time of service at 11am on 5 Nov 2022.

Celebration of life funeral service will to be performed by Rev John Wallace, and interment will follow in Mount Peach Cemetery, Minersville, PA.

The family would prefer remembrances in the form of contributions to First United Methodist Church 4th and W. Market Street Pottsville, PA 17901.
