Gwendoline N. (Woolmer) Reading

April 21, 1925 — January 27, 2016

Gwendoline N. "Gwen" Reading, 90, formerly of Schuylkill Haven, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday at Luther Ridge.

Born in Gretton, England, April 21, 1925, she was a daughter of the late John R. and Louisa Endacott Woolmer.

She was married in January 1945 in Gretton, a World War II bride of John M. Reading, Army Air Corps, who passed away March 7, 2005. Gwen entered the United States with her first child July 4, 1946, to be with her husband. She later became a U.S. citizen in 1963, just before returning on her first of many trips back to England.

Gwen was a member of First United Methodist Church, Schuylkill Haven, and the Friedensburg Hose Company Ladies Auxiliary.

She was formerly employed by Zulick's as a seamstress, Schuylkill Haven.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by five brothers, John, Maurice, Gerald, Trevor and Gordon; three sisters, Wynn, Joan and Phyllis; a granddaughter, Tammy Reading; a great-grandson, Conner Reading.

Gwen is survived by two sons, Brian Reading and wife, Judy, and Gerald Reading and wife, Karen, all of Schuylkill Haven; four grandchildren, Jeff and Scott Reading, Jill Kaufman and Shelly Boyd; four great-grandchildren, Bailee, Avery and Taylor Reading, and Esther Kaufman; nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at First United Methodist Church, Schuylkill Haven, with the Rev. Dr. Christopher Fisher officiating. A viewing will be held at the church from 12:30 until the time of the service. Interment will be take place at 11 a.m. Thursday in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville. At the family's request, memorial donations in Gwen's name may be sent to First United Methodist Church Building Fund, 420 Saylor St., Schuylkill Haven, PA 17972.
