Howard E. Blackwell, 74, of Pottsville, passed away Thursday, at Golden LivingCenter-York Terrace, Pottsville.
Howard was born in Clarksville, Tenn., June 26, 1941, a son of the late Edna York Gibbs and Newman Blackwell.
He was the husband of Linda E. Yourshaw Blackwell, to whom he was married for 31 years.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Pottsville.
He served in the Marines as a corporal in the Vietnam War and was employed as a truck driver.
Howard was a member of the Marine Corps League: Coal Crackers Attachment, Teamsters Union Local 429 and Schuylkill Haven American Legion.
In addition to his wife, Howard is survived by a daughter, Sara Blackwell, fiancee of Doug Dinger, Schuylkill Haven; brothers, Jerry Blackwell (Margaret Ann), Plattsmouth, Neb., Allan Alsup (Joyce), Lewisburg, Ky., Donald Alsup (Linda), Oxford, Ga., and Paul Alsup (Carolyn), Australia; sisters, Denise Haney (Jeff), Covington, Ga., and Faye Champagne, Ky.; nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Geschwindt-Stabingas Funeral Home Inc., Schuylkill Haven, with the Rev. John Wallace officiating. A visitation for family and friends will be held from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home. At the family's request, memorial donations may be sent to Marine Corps League, P.O. Box 1775, Scranton, PA 18501-1775 or Donation Processing, The Michael J. Fox Foundation , P.O. Box 5014, Hagerstown, MD 21741-5014. Interment will be in Schuylkill Memorial Park, Schuylkill Haven.
