James L. "Jimmy" Peiffer, 85, of Auburn, passed away Tuesday, May 3, at Reading Hospital, West Reading.
Born June 23, 1936, in Auburn, he was a son of the late John and Agnes (Lehman) Peiffer.
He was the husband of Mary Frances (Sowers) Peiffer, to whom he was married 62 years.
Jimmy graduated from Auburn High School, Class of 1954.
He began working at Brokhoff and Guers Dairy as a milkman. He worked 32 years as a Prudential insurance agent. After retirement, he worked for Seltzer's Insurance and assisted his son, Tim, when he opened his State Farm Insurance and Financial Services Agency in Camp Hill.
He served in the Army during the Korean War. He attended the Navy School of Music, where he played the trumpet.
He was a member of Joe Misti Polka Band, a 50-year member of Schuylkill Lodge F&AM No. 138, Orwigsburg Eastern Star No. 424 and Auburn Fire Company.
He was a member of St. John's Church, Auburn, where he served as president of consistory for years.
Jimmy enjoyed many mornings spent at Clauser's with the coffee club.
He was preceded in death by sisters, Ethel Miller, Madeline Hanley, Gertrude Smith, and a brother, Robert Peiffer.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Timothy, husband of Gretchen Peiffer, of Dover; a grandson, Zachary Peiffer; a cousin, Harry and his wife, Dolores Fisher, of Myerstown; several nieces and nephews.
A viewing will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, May 9, at Geschwindt-Stabingas Funeral Home Inc., Schuylkill Haven. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 10, at St. John's Church, Auburn, with the Rev. Walter Breiner officiating. An additional time for viewing will be held from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service Tuesday at the church. Interment with military honors will follow in Saint John's New Cemetery, Auburn.
