Joann Helen Roehrig

After a brave and courageous fight, JoAnn passed away in her home surrounded by family on August 4. She is survived by her partner of 25 years, Wilmer Weiss; her children – Ginger Weiss, Lisa Bochicchio, Lynn Hubler, and Steve Roehrig; and their spouses – Kyle, Bill, Brian, & Candee. Mammers, as they called her, was blessed to have 8 grandchildren; Nikki, Ryan, Rachel, BJ, Ashley, Alex, Justin, and Cody. She also has 4 great-grandchildren whom she loved and adored; Addison, Alexis, Autumn & Kaiden. She is also survived by her brother, Steve Melchionne and his wife Mildred in addition to many nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family.She was preceded in death by her beloved mother, Betty Melchionne and her Aunt Jean Hardy.

JoAnn attended Empire Beauty School, worked for many years in the Minersville Dress factory, and was the co-owner of Big Diamond Raceway for much of her adult life.

If you were to ask her what brought her the most joy, she would say her children. She devoted her life to them. Not only did she accompany them on every school trip – including 2 trips to Germany – she was also their bowling coach at Westwood Lanes and the President of the Band Association. When she wasn’t running them to practice, attending concerts, or cheering them on at sporting events, she somehow still found time to be actively involved in the community with the Ladies Amvets, Sir Optimist Club, and Women Who Care.

Known as one of the “Golden Girls”,she could be seen anywhere from Minersville to races at Grandview to Atlantic City to Florida with Nana Betty, Arlene, Cheryl & Theresa. She enjoyed their travels together, time spent with their families and their famous “bitch sessions”.

Mom, Mammers, Mimi, Aunt, sister, and friend will be remembered for her love of cooking, never ending pool parties, “Buy” games and her uncanny ability to dance from beginning to end to both Wipeout and the Twist, but more so because she was beautiful inside and out. She was kind, generous, loving, always ready with a joke, and made friends wherever she went.

She will be greatly missed by all who were blessed enough to know her.She continues in eternal life, so it is not goodbye, It’s simply “I’ll see you later”.

A Memorial Service will be conducted at Ebling-Stabingas Funeral Home, Cressona, at 7 p.m. on Thursday.

A visitation from 5 p.m. until the time of service at the funeral home Thursday evening.

Interment will be privately held at the family’s convenience.
