John Samuel Riegel, Jr.

November 23, 1936 — October 21, 2015

John Samuel "Mike" Riegel Jr., 78, of Orwigsburg, passed away Wednesday at his residence.

John was born in Pottsville, Nov. 23, 1936, a son of the late Francis Losh Riegel and John Samuel Riegel Sr.

He was the husband of Elizabeth A. "Sis" Mochnoc Riegel.

John graduated from Cressona High School, Class of 1954. He then attended Penn State University and Drexel University, Philadelphia, where he received his bachelor's in commerce and engineering.

He served as a corporal in the Marines after the Korean Conflict in occupied Japan.

He was formerly employed by Atlas Powder Co., Reynolds, as an engineer; MetLife Insurance Co., Pottsville and retired from Tracor Aerospace, Lillington, N.C.

John was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Orwigsburg, Free and Accepted Masons, Schuylkill Haven Legion, Lehigh and Minersville Coin Club and the Industrial Engineers 93.

John was preceded in death by a sister, Shirley Super; brothers, Gerald "Sonny" Riegel and Louis Riegel.

In addition to his wife, Elizabeth, he is survived by daughters, Lori Roshannon, wife of Jeff, Pottsville, and Beth Post, wife of Jeff, Orwigsburg; a son, John S. "Jack" Riegel, III husband of Amy, Schuylkill Haven; grandchildren, Nicole Roshannon Herring, Ashley Post, Jennifer Roshannon, Laura Post, Madyson Riegel, Tyler Post, Jordan Post and Sydney Riegel; twin great-grandchildren, Scarlett and Anastasia Herring; sisters Carol Belvin, wife of Cliff, Pine Grove, Janice Henry, wife of Ernest, Hamburg, and Doris Dwin, companion of James Mannon, Mount Carbon; nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Orwigsburg, with Pastor Lee Diefenderfer officiating. A viewing for family and friends will be held from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul's Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 156, Orwigsburg, PA 17961. Interment will be in Schuylkill Memorial Park, Schuylkill Haven.
