Marion L. (Loiry) Lewis

Marion Maxine Loiry Lewis, 91, formerly of Schuylkill Haven, passed away Friday at Luther Ridge, where she had been a resident.

Born in Bourneville, Ohio, Feb. 24, 1923, she was a daughter of the late Alvin Austin Loiry and Emma Bernice Daugherty Loiry, Chillicothe, Ohio. She was the seventh of eight children.

Marion was a graduate of Chillicothe High School, Class of 1940.

During World War II, she worked at Williams Field Air Force Base in Mesa, Ariz., where she met and later married John Shone Lewis Sr. on May 6, 1945. They were married 60 years until John's death on Oct. 15, 2005.

They returned to Schuylkill Haven where John set up his law practice. Together they raised six children, Stephanie Mazzei, wife of Chuck, New Brighton, John Jr., husband of Patricia, Lancaster, James, Schuylkill Haven, Kate Kissinger, wife of Wayne, Benicia, Calif., Jeffrey, husband of Judy, Buck Run, and Patricia Bayliff, wife of Kevin; Schuylkill Haven. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren, Samuel and wife, Tammy, Christina and husband, Essex, Zachary, Joshua, Emily and husband, JR, Peter and wife, Laura, Benjamin and fiancee, Jen, Nicholas, Susannah, Erin, Aimee, John Austin and Elizabeth; 13 great-grandchildren, Aaron, Brynn, Cade, Alexandra, Anastasia, Aidan, London, Landon, Quinn, Avery, Griffin, Torren and Eve; a great-great-grandchild, Mya; and sister, Lois Joanne, Texas.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Amy Elizabeth, in 1964 and an infant great-grandson, Alexander John; siblings, Mary Ernestine, Emmitt Jay, Henrietta Arabella, Bernice Emmaline, Millard Eugene and Alvin Austin Jr.

Marion was a talented artist, working in charcoal, pastels, oils and watercolor. Throughout her life, she had traveled to Greece, Spain, Italy, France, Switzerland, England, Bermuda, Mexico and Canada. Marion had fond memories of summers spent with family at their cottage in Sweet Arrow Lake. She was a skilled seamstress, avid flower and vegetable gardener, gourmet cook and a faithful member of First United Methodist Church, Schuylkill Haven.

A viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Geschwindt-Stabingas Funeral Home Inc., 25 E. Main St., Schuylkill Haven. Family and friends are invited to attend funeral services held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Dr. Christopher Fisher officiating. A viewing will be held prior to the service from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at the church. The family requests donations to First United Methodist Church Memorial Fund, 420 Saylor St., Schuylkill Haven, PA 17972. Interment will be in Union Cemetery, Schuylkill Haven.
