Melvin B. Schafer, 74, of South Manheim Township, Auburn, died Saturday at Reading Hospital, West Reading, Berks County.
Melvin was born in Pottsville, July 5, 1942, a son of the late Harold and Mary Schultz Schafer.
He was the husband of Anna M. Hoy Schafer, to whom he was married 54 years.
He served in the Army Reserves.
He retired from Garden State Tannery, Fleetwood, as a packer.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert and Carl; two sisters, Jean Motley and Lois Pangonis.
Melvin is survived by two sons, Donald, husband of Joann Schafer, Reading, and Michael, husband of Kathleen KIllian-Schafer, Pennsville, N.J.; three brothers, Skip Shafer, Seltzer, Bruce Schafer, Schuylkill Haven, and David Schafer, Hampton, Va.; a sister, Rita Ruscavage, Minersville; nieces and nephews.
