Michael Hopko

March 4, 1923 — January 17, 2017

Michael Hopko, 93, of Pottsville, passed away Tuesday at Luther Ridge at Seiders Hill.

Born in Buck Run, March 4, 1923, he was a son of the late Francis and Anna Chalonic Hopko.

He was the husband of Lillian Leona Stewart Hopko.

Michael served in the Army during World War II.

He was a member of St. Ambrose Roman Catholic Church, Schuylkill Haven, Second Mountain Rod and Gun Club and Saint Clair Old Timers, and a life member of Rainbow Hose Company, Schuylkill Haven.

He was formerly employed by General Battery Co. as a stock mover for 21 1/2 years until retiring in 1985. Prior to that, he was a miner for 16 years.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary C. Koperna, on July 28, 1974; sisters, Anna and Irene Hopko.

Michael is survived by a daughter, Paulette, wife of James Moran, Pottsville; a son, Michael Hopko, husband of Ellen Alexander, Pottsville; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a stepson, Dennis Stewart, Blandon; three stepgrandchildren; sisters, Mary Baidokas, Swathmore, and Helen Hrisko, Lynnwood.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Ambrose Roman Catholic Church, Schuylkill Haven, with Monsignor Edward Zemanik officiating. A viewing for family and friends will be held from 9:15 to 10:15 a.m. at the church. The family requests donations to St. Ambrose Church Memorial Fund, 201 Randel St., Schuylkill Haven, PA 17972, and Hospice Compassus, 1001 James Drive, Leesport, PA 19533. Interment will be privately held.
