Norma Jean (Plodis) Hummel

Norma Jean Hummel, 80, of Schuylkill Haven, passed away Saturday at Schuylkill Medical Center-East Norwegian Street, with her family by her side.

Norma was born at home in Palo Alto, July 13, 1931.

She was a daughter of the late Albert A. and Turine A. Suter Plodis.

She was a graduate of Pottsville Area High School, Class of 1949.

She was the wife of Bruce G. Hummel, to whom she was married 54 years.

Norma was a member of Grace Evangelical Congregational Church, Schuylkill Haven.

Norma was employed by Alpha Mills until her retirement.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Albert J. Plodis; and a sister, Joan M. Plodis.

In addition to her husband, Norma is survived by a son, the Rev. Joel B. Hummel, husband of Nicole, Hanover; a daughter, Judith K. Devlin, wife of Michael, Schuylkill Haven; and two grandchildren, Brandon M. Devlin and Meghan M. Devlin, both at home; four sisters, Marion Harris, Moline, Ill., Irene Bubernak, Las Alamos, N.M., Roma Sailors, Germantown, Tenn., and Carol Seltzer, University Park, Fla.

A Celebration of Life memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Grace Evangelical Congregational Church with the Rev. Robert Stahl officiating. A visitation will be held from 10 a.m. Wednesday until the time of services at the church. At the family’s request, memorial donations may be sent to Grace E.C. Church Memorial Fund, 15 Earl Stoyer Drive, Schuylkill Haven, PA 17972.
