Patricia L. Bowen, 85, of North Manheim Township, passed away Friday at her residence surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Dover, N.H., Feb. 15, 1933, she was a daughter of the late Chester and Helen King Shaw.
She was the widow of Glenn E. Bowen, who passed away Oct. 30, 2012. The couple had shared 59 years of marriage.
Patricia graduated high school from St. Mary's Academy, Dover, N.H.
She was a member of St. Ambrose Roman Catholic Church, Schuylkill Haven, and retired from her position as a secretary for the St. Ambrose School after 30 years of service.
After retirement, Patricia spent much of her time knitting, crocheting and making other homemade gifts. She delighted in teaching those skills to her children and grandchildren. Her other interests included gardening and traveling with her husband and family. She especially loved their annual trips to York Beach, Maine, where she was able to spend time with her sister and extended family. Patricia made many friends while attending Schuylkill Haven Senior Citizens' Craft Class. She and her husband were also active members of the Telephone Pioneers of America.
In addition to her parents and husband, Patricia is preceded in death by her sister, Carol McCabe, and brother, Chester Shaw.
She is survived by four daughters, Cheryl, wife of Harry Rubright, Orwigsburg, Karen, wife of William Lurwick, Schuylkill Haven, Debra, wife of Brian Sterner, Auburn, and Kristine, wife of Michael Kopinetz, Auburn; a son, Glenn Bowen II, husband of Carol, Schuylkill Haven. Patricia is also survived by 13 grandchildren, Becky Rubright Simpson, Sarah Rubright McCahon, Jake, Mike and Ellen Lurwick, Matt and Greg Sterner, Marcie Sterner Potts, Allisa Bowen Waschko, Glenn Bowen III, Josh Bowen, and Kassy and Claire Kopinetz; 21 great-grandchildren.
A viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Geschwindt-Stabingas Funeral Home Inc., Schuylkill Haven. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Ambrose Roman Catholic Church, Schuylkill Haven, with the Rev. Edward S. Zemanik officiating. An additional time for viewing will be held from 9:15 until 10:15 a.m. Thursday in the church's chapel. Interment will immediately follow Mass at Schuylkill Memorial Park, Schuylkill Haven. The family requests donations in Patricia's memory to St. Ambrose Church Memorial Fund, 201 Randel St., Schuylkill Haven, PA 17972, or Hospice of Central Pennsylvania, 1320 Linglestown Road, Harrisburg, PA 17110.
