Ray William Oswald, 92, formerly of Schuylkill Haven, passed away Thursday at Golden Living Centers-York Terrace.
Born July 31, 1922, he was a son of the late Floyd Oswald and Katie Reber Oswald Orwig.
He was the loving husband of Nadine Frehafer Oswald, York Terrace.
Ray was a graduate of Schuylkill Haven High School, Class of 1940.
He proudly served in the Army during World War II and had the honor to play in the Army Band as a trombonist.
Ray was formerly employed as a shop foreman at Hummel's Furniture, Pottsville, as a Lutheran Brotherhood Life Insurance salesman and was the manager at the former John Wanamaker's furniture department, Wyomissing.
He was a faithful member of Jerusalem Lutheran Church, Schuylkill Haven, serving on church council for 20 years, as well as the finance committee for 30 years. Ray also belonged to Cressona Band, Musician's Union, Robert E. Baker Post 38 American Legion-Schuylkill Haven and VFW.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are a sister, Joyce Freed and husband, Lee, Orwigsburg; brother-in-law, Lyle Frehafer and wife, Jane, Cressona; nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Jerusalem Lutheran Church, Schuylkill Haven, with the Rev. David Rowe officiating. A viewing will be held from 1 p.m. until the time of the service Wednesday at the church. Interment will follow in Cressona Cemetery. At the family's request, memorial donations may be sent to Jerusalem Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, 252 Dock St., Schuylkill Haven, PA 17972.
