Reta I. Rhodes, 85, of Schuylkill Haven, passed away Tuesday at her residence.
Born in Schuylkill Haven, July 23, 1929, she was a daughter of the late Sadie I. Fisher and Irvin Moyer.
On July 5, 1952, she married the love of her life, John Rhodes, at Christ Lutheran Church in Schuylkill Haven. They shared 62 loving years of marriage together and were blessed with four beautiful daughters.
A graduate of Schuylkill Haven High School, Class of 1947, she was formerly employed by Alpha Mills.
Reta was a loving crossing guard for more than 30 years on her corner at Haven and Main streets. She always dressed up for the holidays for her kids and loved talking to them after they were grown.
She was a member of Jerusalem Lutheran Church, Schuylkill Haven, and was a golden member of the Order of Eastern Star, Orwigsburg Chapter.
Reta was involved in Girl Scouts for more than 60 years as a troop leader, service unit manager, as well as many other positions over the years. She was a founding member and business manager for Camp Hazy Days. Her love of scouting and the young girls she served were always a passion in her life.
Reta was preceded in death by brothers, Elmer Wildermuth and Henry, Herman, David, Walter and Robert Moyer; and sisters, June Moyer Potts and Verna and Catherine Moyer.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by daughters, Nancy Elle
n Johnson, wife of Mike, York, Jane Rhodes-Williams, wife of Willie, Kutztown, Cindy Strouphauer, wife of Richard, Auburn, and Samantha Rhodes, Schuylkill Haven; grandchildren, Michael Johnson, John and Grace Rhodes-Williams and Ashley Strouphauer; a brother, Edward Ernest Moyer, Schuylkill Haven; and sisters, Dorothy Moyer, Schuylkill Haven, and Sylvia Weikel, Cressona.
A Celebration of Life funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Jerusalem Lutheran Church, Schuylkill Haven, with the Rev. David Rowe officiating. A viewing for family and friends will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday and from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service Friday at the church. Interment will be in Schuylkill Memorial Park, Schuylkill Haven. In lieu of flowers the family would like memorial contributions to be given to Camp Hazy Days c/o Cindy Strouphauer 1325 Running Deer Drive Auburn PA 17922 or Jerusalem Lutheran Memorial Fund 252 Dock Street Schuylkill Haven PA 17972.
