Robert W. Mengle, 95, of Pleasant View Retirement Community, Manheim, passed away Saturday.
Born in Schuylkill Haven, April 18, 1920, he was a son of the late Simon E. and Mary Hartranft Mengle.
Robert graduated from Schuylkill Haven High School in 1938 and received his bachelor's degree from Penn State University in 1942, where he took ROTC and was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Army. He served in the Army as a 1st Lieutenant. during World War II.
He was a member of Grace Evangelical Congregational Church, Schuylkill Haven, and a life member of the American Legion, Schuylkill Haven.
He was employed as a industrial arts teacher at Blue Mountain School District until he retired in 1979.
In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by his wife, Jean D. Harner Mengle, in 1994; and a brother, Richard Mengle.
Robert is survived by a daughter, Carol L., wife of Robert Fesko, Manheim; three grandchildren, Heidi, wife of Kurt Gardner, Lititz, D. Scott Reeder, husband of Rhonda, Gaffney, S.C., and Heather Reeder and her fiancé, Tony Wissler, Harrisburg; six great-grandchildren, Lyndsay, wife of Wesley Morgan, Adam Gardner and his fiancee, Nikki Adams, Dustin Reeder, E. Bleu Miller, Ethan I. Miller and Jacob I. Reeder; a great-great- grandchild, Hudson E. Morgan; two sisters-in-law; nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday at Schuylkill Memorial Park in the Valley View section with the Rev. Ted Rathman officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Operation Renewed Hope Foundation, P.O.
