Robert H. Smith, 78, of Pottsville, passed away Saturday at Schuylkill Medical Center-South Jackson Street.

Born in Auburn, Dec. 5, 1936, he was a son of the late Paul and Bertha Metz Smith.

He was the loving husband of Socorro Avila Smith.

He proudly served in the Marines Corps.

Robert was a member of "Send Me" Ministry Church, Saint Clair, and worked as a real estate investor for 20 years.

Robert enjoyed the company of his beloved wife. His tremendous love and pride for his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren will be his lasting legacy. In his spare time, he enjoyed his great interest in computers.

He was preceded in death by his siblings, James, Paul "Sonny" and Harvey "Butch" Smith and Dorothy, as well as four infant grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, Robert is survived by daughters, Marie Challenger, Pottsville, Sally A. Johnson and her husband, Mark C., and Betyana A. Gordon and her husband, Verrelle, all of Omaha, Neb., Sofie Frantz and her husband, Robert P., Pottsville, and Sandy Smith; sons, Joe S. Smith, Pottsville, Alfred A. Smith and his wife, Tina, Saint Clair, and Robert and Phillip Smith. He is also survived by grandchildren, Candice, Jennifer, Johnny, Courtney, Shane, Alanza, Tyler, Rachael, Hunter, Blake, Jaedyn, Ava, Ella, Sophia and Devon; great-grandchildren, Kingsley, John, and Ari; a brother, Frederick Smith and his wife, Sharon, Berks County.

A Celebration of Life memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. today at Geschwindt-Stabingas Funeral Home Inc., 25 E. Main St., Schuylkill Haven. A visitation will be held from 1 p.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. Interment will be held at a later date.
