Robert Eugene "Gene" Umbrell, 70, of Panther Valley Road, Pottsville, passed away peacefully Saturday at his residence surrounded by loved ones.
Born in Hershey, June 7, 1944, he was a son of the late Robert G. and Mamie Koons Umbrell.
He was the husband of Marie Jurell Umbrell, whom he married Oct. 17, 1964.
He was a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Friedensburg, PA Farm Bureau, New Ringgold Fire Company, Barnes Corners Sno-Pals Inc. and Williams Grove Historical Steam Engine Association Inc.
Gene was a 1963 graduate of Hershey High School from the carpentry shop. He was formerly employed as a truck driver and was a farmer. An active member of Friedensburg Fire Company since 1973, he was a co-organizer of the Snowmobile Rescue Unit.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are a daughter, Bonnie Neifert (Todd), New Ringgold; son, Robert "Rob" Umbrell Jr., at home; daughter, Mary Kahler (Charles "Chuck"), Pottsville; a loving foster daughter, Fannie Tym (Mike), Shenandoah. He is also survived by grandchildren, Todd Jr. (Shauna), Brett and Jeff Neifert, Melinda Wright, Wyatt and Wiley Kahler, Shanelle and Brian (Tom) Kachelries; great-grandchildren; and "Pap" to many others; brothers, Carl Umbrell, Annville, and Jay Umbrell, Mechanicsburg; nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life memorial service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Friedensburg, with the Rev. Peggy Sue Peiffer officiating. A visitation for family and friends will be held from 4:30 p.m. until the time of the service at the church.
