Thomas G. Wertman, 54, of Orwigsburg, passed away Saturday at home, surrounded by his family.
Born in Pottsville, July 15, 1960, he was a son of Arlene Johns Wertman, Orwigsburg, and the late Erlin K. Wertman.
Tom celebrated 28 years of marriage to his loving wife, Faith A. Fidler Wertman, on the day of his passing.
He was a graduate of Nativity BVM High School, Class of 1978, and the Hershey State Police Academy in 1983.
Tom was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Orwigsburg, where he served on church council. He also was a member of the Orwigsburg Fire Department and was an EMT for Orwigsburg Ambulance.
He worked as an Auburn police officer from 1983-97 and then worked as a welfare fraud inspector for the Pennsylvania Office of the Inspector General for 17 years.
In addition to his mother and wife, Tom is survived by a daughter, Kendra Wertman, and a son, Cody Wertman, both at home; a stepson,Travis Leymeister and his wife, Vicki, Pottsville; three grandchildren, Gavin, Skyler and Ryder; and two sisters, Sharon Riedel and her husband, Bob, Connersville, Ind., and Collette Wertz and her husband, Gary, Orwigsburg.
A Celebration of Life memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Feb. 21 at St Paul's Lutheran Church, 215 N. Warren St., Orwigsburg, with a luncheon to follow in Reidler Hall. Interment will be held at the family's convenience. At the family's request, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Geschwindt-Stabingas Funeral Home Inc., 25 E. Main St., Schuylkill Haven, PA 17972, to help defray the cost of funeral expenses.
