Verda Catherine Roadcap, 87, of Schuylkill Haven, passed away Monday at Orwigsburg Center, Orwigsburg.
Born in Lewistown Valley, Nov. 28, 1930, she was a daughter of the late Homer and Catherine Christ Boyer. Verda was the widow of Richard Roadcap, who passed away in 2005.
Verda graduated from Cressona High School and Eastern Pilgrim College.
She was a member of Grace Evangelical Congregational Church, Schuylkill Haven.
Verda worked as a driver for the Schuylkill IU for 40 years.
She was the secretary/treasurer for the Auburn Youth Camp for 45 years and was a member of the Central Pennsylvania Gospel Band. Verda also volunteered her time with ARC, an organization formed to support those with intellectual and development disabilites.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by brothers, Myron and Leonard Boyer; daughter-in-law, Debby Roadcap.
Verda is survived by a son, Roger Roadcap, Cressona; foster son, Frankie Neiswender, Schuylkill Haven; grandson, Benjamin Roadcap; great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Carson and one on the way; two sisters, Jean Sanford, Vancouver, Wash., and Sally Shaffer and her husband, Clayton, Kintnersville; a brother, Ira Boyer, Schuylkill Haven.
A Celebration of Life funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday at Ebling-Stabingas Funeral Home, Cressona, with the Rev. Ted Rathman officiating. A viewing will be held from 9 a.m. until the time of the service Thursday at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Schuylkill Memorial Park, Schuylkill Haven. The family requests donations in Verda's memory to The Arc of Pennsylvania. Donations may be mailed to Pennsylvania Place, Suite 403, 301 Chestnut St., Harrisburg, PA 17101-2535.
